I worked in the foodservice equipment industry for years. I can't tell you how many chefs I've seen ruin blades on steels. They always do that super fast, nearly flat angle that very likely does nothing or ruins the bevel. I just bought the wicked edge system and I can't believe anyone uses anything else. We used to sell the arkansas stones (novaculite) you mentioned, I just think they don't teach people how to properly use them and most end up getting frustrated with flat stones. People buy the highest grit they can find and can't understand why its not instantly sharp. They come with a little wedge guides set at 20 and 17 degrees which definitely help but don't solve the issues of a wobbling hands and uneven pressure. Unless your a 400 year old japanese man, it's a skill that takes a crazy about of time to master. The wicked edge system really takes all the stupid out of the equation. It certainly takes time to lean how to position the knife but, once you've profiled and "reset" your knife to the system, Its absolutely second to none. My filet knives are so sharp, they whittle the bone when I get too close. I'm about to take the plunge on some of the Japanese stones you've mentioned, stropping just isn't getting me to where i'd like to be and seeing that mirrored edge made me throw my wallet at the screen.

I bought what appears to be a Benchmade Stryker 910 from an estate sale today. I was wondering if you have any tips about how to verify if it’s real. It didn’t come with a box or anything and it has slight wear on the handle as if it has spent some time in a pocket.

Here's where the problem lies. Benchmade is way overrated and most people who are involved with knives understand that! If you want to buy a clone buy a clone! Just know whether it's fake or not. Somebody want to believe in a cheap deal ......well?

Is there even a discernable burr made when lapping?How do you determine when to change grits when lapping?

I just got one of these in my hand about an hour ago. Looked up a comparison video. They took a lot of the constructive criticism you mentioned in this video and improved upon it. Like, a lot. It's much harder to determine the authentic vs the clone now.

When you take one off a strip of lapping paper from the ceramic plate where do place the used one so you can use it again? And does it stick multiple times again to the plate! Thanks in advance for your response.

Your suggesting to buy several ceramic plate from work sharp? 2nd how do you know when to change lapping paper. I’m new in knife sharpening the reason I am asking. In fact, I don’t seem to have good luck with leather strop because when I finish with ceramic plate I will use the leather and the blade gets dull!!!!!!

The three biggest flaws with knife on 1st inspection are: 1) the knife is camo green with a black sheath but has Gerber stamped in large white letters so what's the point of the camo. 2) The sheath is shyte and the blade edge slides and rubs on the plastic inside the sheath, dulling the blade every time you pull it out or put it away. 3) The knife came with a roughly sharpened blade. It wouldn't even cut paper and the rouchness of the edge could easily be felt with your finger. Needs a good sharpening and stropping but not with the crappy supplied sharpener - which is really just a rough sharpener for emergencies.

I just found one that I kept in a bugout bag. I absolutely forgot about it. Mine is in that black DLC blade.

Just putting this out there because i didn't hear it mentioned. But if you're gonna use 3 in 1 oil make sure not too use you're pocket knife on any foods as you definitely do not wanna be eating 3 in 1 oil as it's a petroleum product. It does work good for preventing rust no doupt. But it only work's halfway well as a lubricant for pivet points in knives and will become gunky pretty fast compared too many other oil's for these purposes. Also for anyone who may not know they do make and sell food grade knife oil's if you are the kinda person who uses you're daily carry on occasion for foods.

I have decided that the arkfeld pro is worth it and i fully authorize all flashlight gurus to buy one.

Mine was a piece of junk .Within the first 24 hours of having it I dropped it off, my nightstand on the laminate flooring in the button, popped off and broke. Would not recommend it if you drop a 300 and something dollar knife 3 feet on the laminate flooring it shouldn’t break.

How do you keep knives from wiggling in the clamp. Or do they just wiggle for you too?

I have one and It is a very nice knife but it is not an EDC knife. The blade is to thin for any tough work. The tip is very thin an pointy. It is a fighting knife not a work blade.

I've got one coming today. With the sapphire blade and abalone button. We'll see how nice it is. I have a few nice otf microtech knives to compare it to. As well as a gerber and kershaw side opener.

Always startbqith 1 side until u form a burr, than flip and do the same with 2nd side. After that you do th same with all stones.
